Google Assistant is a very handy tool that can search the Internet, adjust settings on your phone and even show information from your Google account and did I mention that you do this with just a voice command.
In this post, I am going to tell you what an Artificial intelligence is, what Google Assistant is and then give you a list of cool things you can do with it on your smartphone.
Are you ready? Then let’s go!
First, What is an A.I?

An A.I (Artificial intelligence) is a program or in some cases, a machine that thinks in a similar manner to a human or thinks in the same way as a human.
The term “artificial intelligence” describes machines that copy the emotional and intellectual behaviors of humans, such as learning and problem-solving.
Artificial intelligence started as an academic institution in 1956 and has experienced several changes over the years.
So what is Google Assistant?
Google Assistant is an A.I.(artificial intelligence) installed on your phone that can run certain tasks for you.
It was first released in 2016 as part of Google messaging app Allo and it’s voice-activated speaker Google Home.
Google restricted the Assistant to Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones at first but later announced on February 2017 that they had started giving access to the Assistant to other Android devices running Android Marshmallow or Nougat, starting from English-speaking countries.
They have since then deployed the assistant to other Android smartphones and Android Wear (now Wear OS). Google has also released the assistant as a standalone app on iOS (Apple’s operating system).
The Assistant can search the Internet, schedule events and alarms, change settings on your phone and even show information from your Google account.
There are over a million+ commands at your disposal. Million-plus commands!!!. Even if you are the captain commander of Android phone users, I am sure you’ll always get a reply from it.
The assistant works with an active internet connection, but there are also commands you can run offline. Like setting an alarm, making a video or voice call, sending a text and a handful more.
Unlike the previous version, Google Now, Google Assistant can engage in a two-way conversation. The Assistant is also able to identify objects and gather visual information through the device’s camera, even support money transfers, plus many more.

There are two ways to call upon Google Assistant. By pressing the home button, until it pops up, or saying “OK Google”.
You can interact with the Assistant through natural voice or through your keyboard input.
Here is a list of 13 amazing things you can do with the Assistant.
1. Discover music around you
Let’s say you are at a party, a club or you are listening to your favorite radio station. Then a song comes, a very catchy song, one that gets you moving those feet and you so needed to hear it again.
There might be no possible way to call the radio station or it’s a huge pain to call a radio station to request such.
It is only one click away.
Press and hold the home button then ask,
“what song am I listening to?”.
The Assistant will analyze every sound around you in search of the song, then brings you a result.
Are you planning a trip to Disneyland and need walking or driving directions?
Or are you hungry and have no idea where to get a nice and tasty domino pizza?
Google Assistant to the rescue.
For direction to Disneyland say “directions to Disneyland” or “walking directions to Disneyland”.
For directions on where to get a bite, say “I’m hungry”.
3. Stream your favorite movies
Are you a Netflix subscriber? Do you know that you can get a first-class seat to the movie page?
Yes, you can. It’s two commands away. “Ok Google” then “open Daredevil on Netflix”.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
4. Have Google Assistant find some good news
We know Google assistant can get the latest news, but what if there is nothing interesting or good on the news. What if you need something to make you happy after a long stressful day.
You can tell Google Assistant to read you some good news.
Say “tell me something good” and “tell me something else good”.
Note: this feature is not supported in some countries.
5. Calculations or Conversion
Ask Google Assistant to run calculations on your math quiz or convert a hundred degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit.
Say “100 degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit” for conversions and something like “what is the square root of 3000” for calculations.
6. Give yourself a quiz
Test yourself with different kinds of fun quizzes. Say “give me a quiz” and it’ll give a list quizzes to pick from.
Once you make a selection, the Assistant will ask you numerous questions based on the topic. It’ll analyze your answers and then gives you a result.
7. Subscribe to Google Assistant
Tired of giving Google assistant the same commands every time?. You can get it to run a task at a specific time of your choice.
Say “send me weather forecasts every morning” or “send me weather forecasts for Paris every morning”.
8. Make Google Assistant your memory aid
If you have so many passwords for so many accounts, it’ll eventually become hard to keep track of them.
Why not make the Assistant remind you of them.
The assistant saves every command and conversation into memory so that whenever you forget and need a quick reminder, it is always an “okay google” away.
Say “my birthday is April 17th” or “my Gmail password is Wakanda Forever 2018”. When you need it, you can be like “what is my Gmail password” and it reminds you. Pretty cool right?
9. Interact with Google Assistant
Like I said earlier, you can have a two-way conversation with Google Assistant and that means talking to it as if it was human.
You can go crazy on this. You can ask its name, its favorite food, its birthday, anything you’ll ask a friend.
10. Get a sports score
You can find the results of your favorite sports score, even check their standings.
Say “team 1 vs team 2” or maybe “premier league table”.
Get the translations of any word in any preferred language.
Say something like “translate food in Spanish” or “food in Spanish”.
12. Make Google assistant your weather forecast
Ask Google Assistant to tell you the weather forecast.
say things like “what is the weather today” or “what is the weather condition in Paris”.
13. Play music
Play any song, album, artist or a playlist available on your smartphone.
Say “play some music” for random or “play Rihanna” for specified choice.
Google assistant is fast, efficient and easy to use and as I said, it has over a million-plus commands. You could learn all the things the Assistant can do by simply asking it “what can you do?”.
